The Story Teller

“Your tale, sir, would cure deafness.”

William Shakespeare, The Tempest

There is a moment of truth in storytelling when you strip your inhibitions in front of the other person. Not only do you connect with that person but you unveil the veil you have been hiding behind to see the true you.

As a child, we love to hear stories but as we start growing up we rarely find any meaning listening to one. We choose to stay in conversations and arguments rather than knowing each other’s stories.

The plot of your story and your life’s events might be unique to you, but the theme is universal and that is where the lightning strikes and the bond come into existence.

Joan Didion in her book, The White Album said that “We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” Looking at it today with naked eyes, we don’t do that anymore, and as a matter of fact, we are merely surviving rather than living. The stories that surround us form a part of the culture and they shape the society we live in. If we stop telling our tales, the traditions we celebrate will die out.

Give words to the stories you have lived and listen to the tales what others are rhyming.

We all have a storyteller in us but most of us are scared of sharing our stories. You have to know this secret that somewhere, somehow your story is going to cross paths with someone else’s life. The plot of your story and your life’s events might be unique to you, but the theme is universal and that is where the lightning strikes and the bond come into existence. As Garr Reynolds puts it in his style; “Your story is really [their] story.”

Stories evolve as time gallop away and they become a part of history. Your story too has the same ending but the constant evolving of your story throughout time is what makes people want to romance with it. The fluidity of your identity shapes your personality into varied shades and every shade inspire others to learn something from it.

-Stories are what makes us humans.

“A story is based on what people think is important, so when we live a story, we are telling people around us what we think is important.”

Donald Miller

There’s a disconnect between us individuals. We have wallowed ourselves with our own entirety so much that all we want to do now is to indulge in mere talks. You have a universe of tales in you that needs to be shared for you to discover yourself. Give words to the stories you have lived and listen to the tales what others are rhyming. Like the child, if we start listening to stories and sharing ours, it will shape our lives in a very significant way.

-In Walter Moers words, now “I shall leave it entirely up to your imagination to fill in this blank;” One upon a time I _______________
